After several years, the Lycée Hubert Clément once again hosted the major Network Conference in Esch in 2022. The theme of this conference was: European Youth – Values, Identity, Culture. From October 25th to 29th, the LHCE welcomed all partner schools of the network Europroject: Education without Frontiers to the European Capital of Culture, Esch.

The official opening of the conference was marked by an inauguration ceremony in the presence of the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Luxembourg. Additionally, the event was attended by Minister of Education Claude Meisch, the Head of the European Commission Representation in Luxembourg Anne Calteux, Member of the European Parliament Christophe Hansen, the Mayor of Esch Georges Mischo, as well as other mayors from the southern municipalities.
After the opening ceremony, the Grand Ducal couple engaged in discussions with students and teachers from the various partner schools on topics such as the war in Ukraine, women’s rights in Iran and in general, European exchange programs, and the history of the network.
Following this, the couple and the honorary guests were introduced to the exhibition Achievements of the EU, which was developed by the Lycée Hubert Clément in collaboration with its partner schools from Austria, Slovakia, Greece, Denmark, and the Netherlands.
Another key program point for school directors, teachers, and coordinators was a lecture with a Q&A session held by Luxembourgish MEP Christophe Hansen.
During the following days, participants visited the Science Center and took a guided tour of Luxembourg City under the theme Luxembourg – European Capital. Here, they had the unique opportunity to be among the last visitors to enter the historic plenary hall of the Robert Schuman building.
The students were divided into workshops, each focusing on different values of the European Union in an artistic way:
- Dance Workshop: Freedom
- Hip Hop Workshop: Equality
- Graffiti Workshop: Human Dignity and Human Rights
- Improvisational Theater Workshop: Democracy
- Poetry Slam Workshop: Rule of Law
In addition to their time in the workshops, the students also visited the Belval district and the Science Center.
During the closing ceremony, the students presented the final results of their workshops to a large audience, including Minister of Culture Sam Tanson. The outcome was overwhelming and greatly impressed the audience.
As tradition dictates, the conference concluded with a party for young and old alike.
The LHCE Europroject Team, led by Jean Theis, Denis Reitz, Pascale Krier, Caroline Konnen, and Michel Fabeck, looks back on a successful conference with great joy and extends its heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to making this wonderful event possible.
