Óscar Romerocollege is proud to welcome delegations from Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, France, Portugal and Finland. Together with Belgian students, they will take part in an intensive programme entirely dedicated to mathematics.
Students at the Heart of the Experience
The Masterclass places students in an active and international learning environment. Working in mixed teams across nationalities, participants will collaborate on challenging mathematical problems, exchange perspectives and explore different approaches rooted in diverse educational systems.
Beyond strengthening their analytical skills, students will experience first-hand how mathematics serves as a universal language. The week offers a unique opportunity to develop confidence, academic ambition and intercultural understanding.
Lectures and Workshops
Throughout the week, experienced mathematics teachers will lead lectures and hands-on workshops, presenting complex problem-solving tasks and demonstrating an approach to mathematics that values depth, insight and collaboration .
A highlight of the programme will be the academic lecture by Prof. Van Lancker, entitled: “How Not to Be Fooled by Statistics: Reasoning with Real-World Data.”
In this session, students will explore how statistics shape our perception of reality, how data can be misleading when presented without critical analysis, and why careful reasoning is essential in today’s data-driven world. Through real-life examples and case studies, participants will be challenged to look beyond graphs and percentages and to approach statistics as a powerful tool for thoughtful decision-making .
