Europroject Education without frontiers

Erasmus+ exchange between Dendermonde (BE) and Geldrop (NL)

From 2 to 6 March, students and teachers from Óscar Romerocollege in Dendermonde (Belgium) and Strabrecht College in Geldrop (The Netherlands) came together for a dynamic Erasmus+ exchange, strengthening the collaboration within the Europroject network.

The exchange was organised in two parts: the first half of the week took place in Dendermonde, after which the group travelled to Geldrop to continue the programme at Strabrecht College. The initiative offered students the opportunity to learn together, explore each other’s regions and experience education in a different European context.

The programme began in Dendermonde with a warm welcome and a team-building activity that immediately helped students connect. The following day, the group travelled to Ghent, where they explored the city through an interactive city game. A highlight of the visit was the Ghent University Museum (GUM) and the impressive Ghent Altarpiece (The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb), experienced through an immersive VR tour.

On Wednesday, the visiting students joined several classes at Oscar Romerocollege and discovered the city of Dendermonde through a series of collaborative assignments. Later that day, the group travelled to the Netherlands, where they were welcomed at Strabrecht College and given a tour of the school’s impressive new campus.

The programme in Geldrop focused strongly on innovation and sustainability. Students investigated the sustainable features of the school building and visited the Philips Museum in Eindhoven, where they learned about the region’s technological heritage. Through creative photo assignments, they also explored the city of Eindhoven itself. The day concluded with team activities and friendly competitions that further strengthened the bonds between the students.

On the final day, participants once again joined lessons and took part in an outdoor archery tag activity, bringing the exchange to an energetic close.

The exchange proved to be a valuable experience for everyone involved. Students returned home not only with new knowledge, but also with new friendships, shared experiences and a deeper understanding of their neighbouring country.

Initiatives like this illustrate how Europroject schools collaborate across borders to create meaningful European learning experiences for their students, supported by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union.
